(AP) - Lawyers for a New Jersey man accused of raping and killing his 11-year-old neighbor last summer will have more time to investigate the allegations.
A judge had been scheduled to set a trial date for 19-year-old Andreas Erazo on Monday. But instead the public defenders handling his case were given 30 more days to complete their probe.
Erazo is charged with murder, aggravated sexual assault and other counts in the July 2017 slaying of Abbiegail Smith. He's pleaded not guilty to all counts.
Smith body was found one day after she was reported missing. Her body was wrapped in a comforter that was found near the apartment building where both she and Erazo lived in Keansburg.
Monmouth County prosecutors have said Erazo attacked the girl inside his apartment.
