Body found under Belmar boardwalk identified; foul play not suspected
Authorities say a man whose body was found under the boardwalk at the Jersey Shore over the weekend has been identified, and his death isn't considered suspicious.
The Asbury Park Press reports that police in Belmar identified the body as that of 39-year-old Christiaan Rose, of Spring Lake Heights.
His body was found Saturday morning underneath the boardwalk where Ninth Avenue meets the beach in Belmar.
Belmar Police Chief Andrew Huisman says officials are awaiting the results of toxicology tests to determine the official cause of death. Officials earlier said they believe he died of an apparent overdose.
Rose's obituary said he was a carpenter who enjoyed being outdoors and fishing but "struggled daily for sobriety."
A funeral will be held Saturday in Wall Township.
The Associated Press wire services contributed to this report.
