Summer is in full swing and that means Coney Island is open.

All the shops, rides and activities are open to the public, including the beach.

News 12 Brooklyn's Katie Vasquez spoke with people on the boardwalk as summer starts.

“There's a lot of people here, and you can make new friends when you’re playing in the sand and swimming,” said Larry Watkins Jr. from Brownsville.

During the summer people can go anywhere but many say with all that Coney Island has to offer, it is the place to be.

“There's multiple faces around here, a lot of diversity here, seeing people from all around the world coming here,” said Abiola Oretade, from Connecticut.

Although the weather wasn't ideal, especially in June, for many Coney Island is a summer tradition and they weren’t going to let overcast skies ruin their day.
