A man from Roselle has been charged with multiple counts of animal cruelty.
Evelio Calderon, 40, was found last month with more than 40 dogs living in what authorities called "severely unsanitary and inhumane conditions."
The animals were permanently locked inside his Thompson Avenue home and suffering from a range of medical problems.
One of the dogs was missing an ear, while another was missing its tail.
The dogs ranged in age from puppies to seniors, differing in breed and size.
Several were treated on site for injuries including joint problems, malnourishment, and eye issues.
Calderon faces more than 30 counts of animal cruelty.
If convicted, Calderon faces up to five years in prison.
