‘Love Yourself’ peace concert returns for 2nd year in a row
The “Love Yourself” peace concert is back Monday night for the second year in a row. The goal is to change the violent narrative often associated with the J'Ouvert Parade.
J'Ouvert is supposed to be a cultural celebration heading into the West Indian American Parade. But recently, it has become notorious for the violence that comes with it, particularly a number of deadly shootings.
Organizers are using the power of music to send a message to the community. They are hoping that this experience will make people less likely to go out and engage in violence when the real party starts.
The plan is to keep holding the concerts every year until J'Ouvert becomes known more for the cultural celebration than for violence.
