Police say a school employee made a threat against Norwalk High School.
Leslie Delaney, a 69-year-old veteran and cafeteria worker, was arraigned Wednesday afternoon.
Delaney allegedly told a co-worker that if that co-worker saw him in his Army uniform, they should leave because Delaney would have an AK-47 assault rifle and could "finish everything," and then "off himself."
Police say Delaney was interviewed and admitted to making the comments. They say they found a rifle in the trunk of Delaney's car after obtaining a search warrant.
Delaney's attorney said in court that the Vietnam veteran had no true intentions of carrying out the threat.
School officials added extra school resource officers at Norwalk High as a precaution. They'll be present for the rest of the week.
The alleged comment was made on the second day of class but was only brought to the attention of police on Tuesday.
Delaney was held on $100,000 bond. A request for lower bond was denied. He's set to reappear in court Sept. 24.
"We're grateful to the Norwalk Police Department for their response and follow up yesterday regarding the report of a possible threat by a long-time cafeteria worker involving Norwalk High," the school said in a statement. "Following his arrest yesterday, Leslie Delaney has been placed on administrative leave, pending completion of the investigation."
