Selden residents told News 12 that potholes are still plaguing the pavement, despite Brookhaven’s promises to have them fixed by the start of the school year.
News 12 was called to King Avenue for the third time in seven months Friday after residents complained about potholes in the streets.
Resident Eric Leonard called the situation “ridiculous.”
“We have one street that has been replaced and that's Ruland [Road]. The rest have not been touched,” he says.
News 12 spoke with Brookhaven Town Highway Superintendent Dan Losquadro in May. It was then that he said, “[The paving project is] going to start when school ends. It's going to be done before school starts back up.”
When asked if he could guarantee that, he said, “Absolutely.”
Residents did say town crews came to King Avenue over the summer, but all they did was patch the potholes. They tell me that's nothing more than a quick fix that doesn't last.
On Friday, Losquadro explained that the project was running a little behind because of weather and scheduling issues. He says nearby Ruland Road was made a priority and fully repaved since that street provides access to the school.
“It's not that this project is not getting finished. It just took us a little longer than anticipated. But we lived up to our commitment of not blocking school access prior to school starting,” says Losquadro.
He said the project would be finished by the start of the winter.
“This project has always been on our agenda this year to complete before the paving season ends,” he says.
Losquadro told News 12 that the King Avenue project should be finished by the end of the month.
