Business Briefs: Boxes, Starbucks, SpaceX

Posted: Updated:

There is good news for big-box retailers as we head into the holiday shopping season. Adobe Analytics says more people are buying big-ticket items like electronics and appliances. Overall sales on Labor Day were up 23 percent, a sign of strong consumer confidence thanks to low unemployment and wage growth - something retailers expect to carry over through the end of the year.

Starbucks has big sustainability plans for the future. The company released plans to build 10,000 greener stores around the world by 2025. In addition to the environmental benefits, Starbucks says the efficiencies will save $50 million in energy costs over the next decade. Starbucks has also committed to eliminating plastic straws in the next two years.

One big step toward making space tourism a reality - Elon Musk's SpaceX says the company has signed the first private passenger to fly around the moon on one of its rockets. Questions still remain, including the person's identity, a timetable for the trip and the ticket price. SpaceX says details will be released this coming week.
