Friends and family gathered Tuesday evening at Chester Playground in remembrance of a teenager who was shot and killed there last week.
Police say 16-year-old Timothy Oyebola, an 11th-grade student at Brooklyn Ascend High School, was shot in the head right before 4 p.m. Friday.
They also say he was playing basketball with friends when at least two shots were fired from far away. Two men were seen running from the scene.
Oyebola was taken to Brookdale Hospital and pronounced dead. Police say he was not the intended target.
His classmates describe him as a friendly kid who loved basketball more than anything.
People at the vigil signed posters and memorials while reminiscing about Oyebola and discussing the problems of gun violence in the community.
"You really can't describe it, it's like it's hard that he's not here because he didn't deserve it and knowing that it could have been anyone on this court to get hit is the scary thing," says Jalen S., a classmate of Oyebola.
One of the organizers of the vigil tells News 12 Brooklyn that Oyebola's family was too upset to attend but that the community will continue standing up for gun violence in his name.
