A contractor who was convicted of scamming Superstorm Sandy victims out of thousands was sentenced in Nassau court Thursday to 45 days in jail.
Homeowners in both Suffolk and Nassau say Lee Moser, of Capstone Remodeling, is an unscrupulous contractor who preyed on families whose lives and homes were destroyed by Sandy in 2012. They say he took money for work that either wasn't done or wasn't finished.
Moser will be serving his jail time only on the weekends. He also was sentenced to five years of probation and has to finish repaying $100,000 in restitution.
Some victims say that's a slap on the wrist.
Moser’s attorney Brian Trodden says he will be serving the time on the weekend so he can keep his job and repay restitution to his victims.
Moser was sentenced in Suffolk last month where he received five years of probation and an order to repay $62,000 in restitution.
The state's New York Rising program has already reimbursed homeowners in this case. The money repaid by Moser will go back to the Governor's Office of Storm Recovery.
