Police say a man was shot in front of his 3-year-old daughter by a group of men who then attempted to take the child away from her father.
The incident happened on Wednesday, Sept. 17, in front of 2218 University Ave. around 2 p.m.
Surveillance video shows three men pulling out guns on the 30-year-old father as he walks on the street with his daughter.
Police say one of the suspects shot at the man, but missed.
"They had a mask, they were covering their faces and then they just came straight at that guy and shot the guy, then they just took off," says neighbor Kelsey Ramirez.
The father can be seen grabbing his daughter and attempting to run away before being shot in the leg by one of the gunmen. Police say he was transported to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition and that the 3-year-old child was not injured.
News 12 spoke with the victim, who wished not to go on camera. He says he is doing OK physically, but that the incident traumatized his family.
Police say the three suspects accused of the shooting ran off after the incident.
No arrests have been made, and anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
