Tenant claims health issues stem from moldy apartment
A tenant at the New York City Housing Authority's Throgs Neck Houses says she is developing health issues related to her moldy apartment.
Lauren Archer has lived in the complex for 13 years and says she started experiencing mold issues after being there for just six months. Anytime she filed a complaint, she says NYCHA would simply paint over the mold, never actually dealing with the issue.
The 61-year-old showed News 12 around her unit on Monday, pointing out a hole in the bathroom wall that's shared with the bedroom wall, removing privacy. She says broken tiles on the ground cause her to trip.
The apartment's bedroom is so full of mold that Archer says she must sleep in the living room. She says her cat has also developed health issues because of the mold and throws up daily.
Archer's daughter says she filled out paperwork for her mother to get transferred to another NYCHA complex, but the agency says the paperwork was never received.
"Staff will visit the resident tomorrow to assess and coordinate repairs," NYCHA told News 12.
