A former church on Home Street is being transformed into an apartment building, with some affordable units set aside for seniors.

The Home Street Presbyterian Church will be completely remodeled, and 43 new apartments are available through a lottery for those who qualify.

According to the New York Housing Conference, the building is located at 1017 Home St. When it's completed, there will be an on-site supermarket, lounge, fitness center, bike room, a roof terrace and card-operated laundry.

Studio and one-bedroom apartments are being set aside for seniors who are 62 or older and earn a maximum of $41,750 a year.

Residents will pay 30 percent of their income to live in the apartments and must qualify for Section 8 housing.

Applications are being accepted now until Jan. 9 through the city's Housing Connect website.
