THE BRONX -

Residents in the Bronx celebrated Dominica's 40th year of independence at Eastwood Manor Sunday.

The Dominica-American Relief and Development Association organized the event that celebrated culture and featured food and dancing.

Aside from celebrating Dominica's independence, DARDA is also using this event to raise funds for the island to help rebuild after destruction due to Hurricane Maria.

Dominica gained independence from Great Britain on Nov. 3, 1978.
