Unfounded threat causes shelter-in at Riverdale school

Parents piled up outside a Riverdale school Thursday to pick up their kids after an apparent threat caused worry for students and staff.
Officials say an online threat against Riverdale Kingsbridge Academy was reported Thursday. The threat turned out to be unfounded, but the school did go into a brief shelter-in.
"I was in the lunch room, then I heard a rumor from my friend that we're all gonna die," says Essence Gaines, a student at the school. "So my teacher, she was really nervous as well and she let us call our moms and stuff. I felt really scared because all around the world there's school shootings, and you never know - that can happen to you."
The academy released a statement that said, "We were informed that there was increased police presence in the area, and so this action was taken as an added precaution. There was no direct threat to the school or students."
