This Sunday will mark the start of Hanukkah, and the Bronx Jewish Center is encouraging residents of any religion to come together.
The center plans to kick off the first of the eight festive nights with a chocolate factory-themed event.
Organizers say they are celebrating the victory of the Maccabees, who reclaimed the holy temple in Jerusalem where they were being oppressed and not allowed to practice their faith.
When they went to light the temple's menorah, they found just one day's worth of oil, which miraculously lasted eight days.
Potato latkes, doughnuts and other oily foods are staples in Jewish households during Hanukkah.
The center says they want to share the message of unity with the public this season in light of events like the mass shooting at a Pittsburgh temple last month.
