A multimillion-dollar investment from city officials will fund renovations to enhance a nonprofit for artists in Downtown Brooklyn.

Issue Project Room is used as a space for artists to create and perform. The nonprofit’s aim is to bring recognition to under-recognized artists. It’s been working on its space for nearly a decade, giving artists a place to experiment, practice and connect with each other.

Over the next few years, Issue Project Room’s executive director says renovations will enhance everything in its space from lighting to acoustics. The goal is to give artists a forum to be creative.

People who work in the space say the investment shows art is a priority and that artists who might not have made a name for themselves yet are supported.
