'Nutcracker' performance at Kings Theatre showcases diversity

Holiday spirit was on display during a special performance of “The Nutcracker” Friday night that highlighted the diversity of Brooklyn.
The one-night performance was held at the Kings Theatre in Flatbush, and dancers were also wearing the first-ever LED motion activated tutus.
Director Lynn Parker says the dancers represented the people and culture of the Bronx.
“We go onto Flatbush Ave., we go through neighborhoods of Brooklyn,” she says. “So we have Middle Eastern dance, we have Chinese dance, we have Flamenco done by authentic dancers from those communities.”

News 12 Brooklyn is told that Friday night's show was one of the first and only completely culturally authentic “Nutcracker” performances to exist.
