Police: Man dies in Westchester Ave. shooting

PARKCHESTER -

A man has died following a Thursday evening shooting on Westchester Avenue in Parkchester, according to police.

Police were called to the scene in front of 2167 Westchester Ave. at around 6:15 p.m. Thursday.

The address is the home of a Marine Corps office. A military source says the man shot was a civilian.

Police say a 23-year-old man was shot in the lower back. He was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi where he died from his injuries.

Authorities searched many stores in the busy area of the scene for evidence. The scene neighbors the Castle Hill Avenue train station and a bus stop.
