Group calls on Brooklyn Botanic Garden to offer free admission all year
The Brooklyn Botanic Garden is facing pushback from one group after announcing it will be ending most of its free admission times during the spring and fall.
The group, called the Committee of 100, is made up of seniors and community advocates. It held a ‘love in’ opposing that there will no longer be free days at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Starting March 1, the Brooklyn Botanic Garden says it will permanently end all free admission times. Free weekdays during the winter started from Dec. 1 through the end of February. The Brooklyn Botanic Garden says this policy has been in place for many years.
Regular admission, which is $15 for adults and $8 for seniors is expected from March 1 through November. Children under 12 are free.
The Committee of 100 argues that the Brooklyn Botanic Garden should be free all year-round.
They say many seniors can't afford the $8, and many families can't afford the adult ticket price. The Brooklyn Botanic Garden says it offers free admission Friday mornings from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
It says it also has discounted senior rates for regular admission, festival tickets and memberships.
