Trump says no US return for NJ-born woman who joined Islamic State group
President Donald Trump has denied a New Jersey-born woman’s request to return to the United States after she left to join the Islamic State group.
Hoda Muthana was born in Hackensack and raised in Alabama. She left the United States in 2014 to join the Islamic State in Syria after becoming radicalized.
Muthana wants to return to the U.S. with her young son, but that request was denied.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo says that Muthana is no longer a U.S. citizen. Muthana’s attorney is challenging that claim and says that he has her New Jersey birth certificate to prove it.
Muthana says that she regrets her decision to join the terrorist group.
