Planned Parenthood of Nassau County says a new Trump administration regulation is unfairly targeting family planning clinics.
The Department of Human Services published a new regulation that would ban family planning clinics by the federal program Title X from referring patients for abortion care.
The plan will prohibit federally-funded clinics from being housed in the same location as abortion providers even though Title X does not fund abortions.
Frank Russo, the president of the American Family Association of New York supports the new rule. He says he sees the rule as a win for conservative groups like his own.
Planned Parenthood of Nassau County CEO JoAnn Smith says the organization will not change its operations to receive Title X funds, meaning they'll have to find other ways to generate money to serve the more than 13,000 patients who visit their clinic.
The rule doesn't go into effect for another 60 days. Leaders like State Attorney General Letitia James say they'll fight the rule in court.
