Strong winds knocked out power for thousands of people across Connecticut Monday.

At one point, more than 2,000 customers were without power. The outages affected street lights, homes and businesses.

An entire strip of businesses was without power for much of the morning and a five-way stoplight was in the dark until power was restored just before 12 p.m.

Temporary stop and yield signs were put at the busy Black Rock Turnpike intersection until crews got power back, but it wasn't the only section of town affected. Over on Raymonds Drive, a residential road, firefighters closed off a section where a tree fell, taking power lines down with it. A number of local businesses were affected too, operating in the dark from open until 12 p.m.

Staff at Pizza Mediterranean didn't seem too concerned. They pre-made a few pies ahead of the lunch rush.

"It's not the end of the world anyways. So you know you just got to wait until power comes back," said Rahmi Palik, of Pizza Mediterranean.

On Burr Street, several utility crews were hard at work removing tree limbs and restoring power lines that came down as a result of high winds. The street was narrowed down to one lane during repairs.

In Bridgeport, winds sent a tree crashing into a house, which sent one resident of the multifamily unit into a panic.

"I actually had an anxiety attack. My sister had to calm me down. I was on my way to go see my psychiatrist right now when everything happened. It's scary, I'm just glad nobody was hurt,” says Bridget Dlamini. Fortunately, the tree didn't go through her unit, and it appears to be a bit of structural damage.
