Members of the Spanish-speaking community met at Bridgeport City Hall Monday to make sure their education concerns weren't lost in translation.

Immigration advocacy group Make the Road Connecticut attended Monday's City Council meeting to say budget cuts in Bridgeport Public Schools have a big impact on the Hispanic community.

Group members had the goal of being face to face with officials to voice their concerns about how the school budget affects issues like special education and music.

Fifth-grader Erika Lazo was among those in attendance, stressing how important music is to her education.

"It made my education better because I learned to cooperate with other people, play other instruments, made new friends too," says Lazo.

Councilwoman Jeanette Herron says even if money is tight, her ears are open.

"We will work with them, we have interpreters, we can meet in the middle, absolutely that is what we are here for," says Herron.

Group members say they now have a meeting scheduled with officials next month.
