Police: Man assaulted woman before fleeing with her purse
A man is accused of brutally attacking and robbing a woman at a Mott Haven subway station, police say.
Police tell News 12 the incident happened on Thursday at around 5 a.m. in the Cypress Avenue 6 train station.
They say the suspect walked up to the 38-year-old and punched her in the face.
After the victim fell on the platform, the man allegedly kicked her and fled off with her purse.
The woman then got up and went to a nearby business and called police.
Subway riders say they are repulsed by the alleged crime.
"It's not right anyone to hit a woman, especially a man," said Kiko Llosa.
That purse had the woman's ID, bank cards and a MetroCard in it. Surveillance video shows the suspect using the same MetroCard at the 51st Street Station on the Lexington Avenue line later that day.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
