The New York City Health Department has ordered all Williamsburg yeshivas to exclude vaccinated children or face punishments.
The department made the announcement Monday, saying that any school out of compliance will be issued a violation or even face school closure.
The measles outbreak is up to 285 cases in Brooklyn and Queens, according to the Health Department. Officials say 246 of the cases are in children, and 21 total people have been hospitalized.
The Health Department says one yeshiva in Williamsburg is connected to more than 40 confirmed measles cases.
Health Commissioner Dr. Oxiris Barb said in a statement, "As a pediatrician, I know the MMR vaccine is safe and effective. This outbreak is being fueled by a small group of anti-vaxxers in these neighborhoods. They have been spreading dangerous misinformation based on fake science."
The commissioner went on to say that the majority of people in Williamsburg have been vaccinated, but he is advocating that those who haven't been vaccinated do so as Passover approaches.
