Residents of a co-op say they are not being listened to when it comes to significant renovations decisions made by board members, including major lobby renovations.
Residents at 800 Grand Concourse say there is a lack of transparency by their co-op board, and believe their money is being used to fund projects without adequate feedback.
"This is a major project. The renovation of the lobby is a common area and the shareholders should have a say in renovations of that particular area, and we haven't been given the opportunity,” says Elaina Christian, a resident of the building.
Sources tell News 12 that the lobby project has been in the works for years, but residents want the project to be put on hold until they know all of the details about the construction. They wonder how the renovation will affect the outdoor garden, which residents say they like the way it is.
Construction on the lobby project is expected to start next month. Shareholders say the only way they have been able to meet with board members is by getting other residents to sign a petition. When a meeting occurs – they do not feel that they are being heard.
"I would recommend that they meet with the shareholders more often and they share a great deal more information," says board member Candis Sanders.
News 12 was unable to reach the building’s management for comment.
