Police are searching for a suspect accused of assaulting an elderly man inside a gas station in Woodlawn.
The victim suffered from a broken jaw and brain swelling after getting into an argument inside the gas station on East 233 Street and Webster Avenue around 5:40 a.m. Monday.
News 12 is told the men were in line at the Dunkin’ Donuts counter in the station when they started to argue, and it escalated into a fist fight.
Police say the suspect told the victim to back off because he was allegedly too close to him.
Police say the suspect, caught on surveillance video, then punched the 82-year-old in the face, causing him to fall, hitting his head on the ground. The suspect then fled the scene in a white Dodge van with New Jersey plates. The victim was taken to the hospital where he's recovering from brain swelling and a broken jaw.
The manager of the Dunkin' Donuts says the victim is a frequent customer.
The suspect is believed to be between the ages 45 and 50 years old.
He was last seen wearing a gray hoodie, dark pants and a dark gray hat.
Anyone with information is asked to call police.
