A teen was killed after being run over by a truck in Borough Park Wednesday night.

Police are calling the incident, which happened near the corner of 53rd Street and 17th Avenue, a tragic accident.

Police say 16-year-old Visroel Schwartz was riding his bicycle headed northbound along 17th Avenue, when he swerved to avoid a driver in a parked car who was opening their door around 5:30 p.m.

The door hit the teen, and he fell off his bike right into the path of a van, which ran over him.

He was rushed to the hospital with severe trauma to his head and body. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police tell News 12 the driver stayed on scene, and while it’s still under investigation, they aren’t expected to be charged at this point.
