7 middle school students win NPR student podcast competition

A group of middle school students from the Bronx won NPR's first ever student podcast competition.
The seven girls, eighth-graders from Bronx Prep Middle School, talked about their individual experience with periods in a four-minute, 31-second podcast.
The girls say the conversation started when one of them had to ask a teacher for a sanitary napkin, something the boys in the class began teasing her about.
The girls say they hope to spread the message that periods happen for every girl and it isn't something they should be ashamed of.
