THE BRONX -

The NYPD is dealing with a tragedy involving an officer stationed in the Bronx, according to sources.

Police sources say 53-year-old Kevin Preiss committed suicide Thursday night. He was a 24-year veteran of the force assigned to the 50th Precinct.

They say the incident occurred at his home in Suffolk County.

It is the department's fourth suicide this month. The police commissioner has declared a mental health crisis in the department.

The officer's death is the sixth in the department this year.
