Police say a passerby in the Bronx discovered a man bleeding on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the head and leg.
The shooting happened around 4 a.m. at 1528 Hoe Ave. in Crotona Park East. The victim was found outside the Murphy Houses.
According to neighbors, a July 4 barbecue took place Thursday evening and went into the early morning hours.
"There was so much fireworks last night--you couldn't tell the difference between gunfire and fireworks," one resident said.
The 20-year-old man was transported to St. Barnabas Hospital and is listed in critical condition.
Police are still working to determine whether the victim was an innocent bystander or was targeted.
So far, no arrests have been made.
