PELHAM PARKWAY -

Police are investigating a hate crime after a woman attacked another woman on the subway.

The 54-year-old victim tells police she was punched and harassed on the subway Tuesday around 4 a.m. at the Pelham Parkway station when she got into an argument with another woman.

The reason for the argument is still unclear, but police say the woman started to become physical.

News 12 is told she tried to remove the victim’s helmet and struck her in the face while making anti-Hispanic statements. According to the victim, the suspect said "go back to your country" and "your taking jobs away from real Americans."

The victim was taken to the hospital and is recovering from minor injuries.

Police are calling the incident a hate crime against the victim.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
