Co-op City neighbors celebrated the 59 year anniversary of the theme park known as Freedomland.
The apartments were built in the parking lot of Freedomland, while the malls were built on the grounds of the old theme park.
In the 1960's, Freedom Land opened doors. It was shaped to look like the U.S. and had various attractions and rides that illustrated different events and parts of the country.
Neighbors gathered Saturday to install three of the original pieces from the park next to the Bartow Mall. The original pieces from Freedom Land will live stay at the mall permanently.
Organizers are encouraging anyone with memorabilia from the theme park to donate it.
