Officials in Bethpage marked the town's connection to the 50th anniversary of the moon landing with the naming of a park.
"We declare this park Apollo Park!" That was the announcement made by officials to all in attendance.
The newly named Apollo Park is a nod to the fact the Lunar Module that helped put astronauts on the moon was made in Bethpage. Men and women who worked at the former Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corporation's Bethpage facility helped build the module. They were recognized Wednesday for their contribution to history.
Saturday marks the 50th anniversary of the moon landing.
