Long Island residents hit the beach Sunday as an excessive heat warning is in effect until Sunday night.

Long Island residents hit the beach Sunday as an excessive heat warning is in effect until Sunday night.
Robert Moses State Park's Field 2 has extended hours, opening at 8 a.m. and closing at 8 p.m. Jones Beach also has extended hours.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo ordered all state parks to stay open longer this weekend due to the extreme heat. Those parks include Sunken Meadow, Robert Moses, Orient and Heckscher beaches, Wildwood Park, Hither Hills and Montauk Downs.
Nassau and Suffolk counties also have extended hours at some pools Sunday, including Hempstead Town pools. The Town of Huntington is keeping Dix Hills Park Pool open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Both counties also have cooling centers open.
Doctors are encouraging everyone to stay hydrated by drinking water and sports drinks throughout the day.
