Two Bronx bus routes have been deemed “painfully slow” and “unreliable” in a new report.
The NYPIRG Straphangers Campaign and TransitCenter announced its 2019 "Pokey and Schleppie" awards Tuesday. The transit groups look at more than 60 high ridership bus routes across the city.
The Bx19 tied for fifth slowest citywide - clocking in at 4.8 mph on average.
The Bx3 was rated the most unreliable Bronx bus route, and second-most unreliable route across the city — winning a Schleppie Award.
The award is based on the percentage of buses that "bunch up" at stops, meaning two or more arrive at the same time.
However, there has been improvement. According to the report, this year's honorees are slightly faster than last year's Pokey winners by 0.1 mph. Slowly, but surely.
The MTA told News 12 in a statement in part: "Improving bus service is one of the four main pillars of President Andy Byford's plan to modernize NYC Transit.  We're redesigning the bus network in every borough. The commonsense objective is to make routes more direct and serve more New Yorkers, so that our buses can get them to their destinations faster."
