Bat gets loose on Spirit Airlines flight headed for Newark

Posted: Updated:
NEWARK -

A Spirit Airlines flight from Charlotte to Newark had an unexpected stowaway – a bat.

Passenger Peter Scattini posted a video on Twitter Wednesday showing what appears to be a bat flying in the cabin of the plane. Passengers on the flight appeared to be spooked.

A spokesperson for the airline confirms that a bat was indeed on the plane. It was believed that the bat got onto the flight in Charlotte.

“The bat was eventually corralled into a lavatory and removed once on the ground by animal control officers,” the spokesperson said in a statement.

The plane was disinfected and searched as a precaution.

The spokesperson says that no one was hurt in the incident, including the bat.
