The city's Planning Commission has approved a plan to build four new jails across the city.
Protesters let their voices be heard inside the commission's meeting, where there was a 9-3 vote in favor of the project.
The plan is in preparation for the possible closing of Rikers Island. It's been a hot issue among Bronx residents worried about a new jail coming to the borough.
The site approved for the Bronx is the Mott Haven tow yard.
Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. wasn't thrilled with the decision saying in a tweet, "It is unfortunate that the City Planning Commission has declined to listen to the serious concerns of the people of my borough, and has instead chosen to move forward with a plan to close Rikers Island that builds a new jail in the wrong place."
