A rapper from the Bronx is using his personal experiences to inspire his music -- and using his music to overcome those experiences.
Kingsbridge native Javier Rossi is known in the music world as Jav.
He's been making music since college, channeling his experience through rhymes and rhythm.
Jav has oftentimes crafted stories on the train, but on Aug. 13, 2018, a frightening episode on the subway led to a newfound inspiration. He suffered a seizure, seemingly out of nowhere.
"It brought down my confidence, my self-esteem," says Jav.
Instead of letting the experience defeat him, Jav let it define his album "Thank You For Listening."
"The first song is called ''August 13th.' Once I was able to do that, put it on paper, I was able to express some of the issues I was dealing with that time and I'm sure it relates to a lot of people with medical issues," says Jav.
Jav released his latest project this week, called "Two Piece." He says it is about rebuilding yourself after a medical issue.
"Anything is doable, anything is possible. You're going to have hardships come your way, you're going to have medical issues, you're going to have family issues. Everyone has issues and the biggest message is, you can get past it," Jav says.
