A Bronx Fashion Week event on Saturday at the Bay Plaza Mall combined the passions of food, culture and fashion.
The event was called A Taste of Bay Plaza, because, along with a fashion show, there were also unlimited food tastings.
Before the runway show took off, guests tasted a little of everything, from seafood to dessert. All the food served was from small businesses and chain restaurants in the borough.
Bronx-born poet, actress and musician Caridad de la Luz, also known as La Bruja, hosted the event. She says she took on the event because it was representative of the borough’s diverse culture.
“Fashion can be a very cruel world, but we like to celebrate the inner design of people,” says de la Luz. “So you’re going to see all shapes and sizes, all backgrounds on our runway.”
Models took on the runway to showcase clothing from Bronx-based designers and more.
Bronx Fashion Week has been taking place for five years.
The aim of the event is to let locals know they don’t need to travel to Manhattan for Fashion Week.
