Parents question principal about school director accused of enticing teen for sex

Posted: Updated:

Parents gathered at P.S. 48 in Hunts Point Wednesday to hear from the principal about the arrest of Jason Seto – the community school director charged last week with enticing a minor to engage in sexual activity.

Police say Seto had been communicating with a person online who he thought was a 14-year-old boy but was actually an undercover detective.

Parents say the principal told them he couldn’t legally notify them about the arrest. Many parents told News 12 that they felt better after the meeting.

“The principal here made me feel like my kids were safe,” said one parent.

They were told that Seto was never left alone with any students and didn’t have one-on-one contact with them at all.

A spokesperson with the United Federation of Teachers says Seto has been suspended without pay.

The city’s Department of Education said in a statement: “Parents are a critical part of our school communities, and we work to provide parents with accurate and timely information. The school is sending a letter to parents tomorrow.”
