Newly added crosswalks in Riverdale has some residents searching for places to park.
A petition with about 150 signatures and counting is asking for the Department of Transportation to remove the crosswalks. It says that 14 spots were eliminated because of them.
According to Community Board 8's committee report, an employee from the Department of Transportation stated that approximately 7-8 parking spots would be lost.
It also states that the community board requested the Department of Transportation to study the intersection at West 237th Street.
Christina Mogrovejo works in healthcare with nontraditional hours. She says parking far away from her home brings up safety concerns.
"As a young female, my guard is always up, but if I have to park really far, I really prefer not for that to happen," Mogrovejo says.
Another resident says their time spent looking for parking has doubled.
News 12 reached out to the Department of Transportation and Community Board 8 for a statement but have yet to hear back.
