Police search for suspect in connection to car robbery in the Bronx

Posted: Updated:

Police are looking for a person in connection to a car robbery in the Bronx.

Christian Melendez says he woke up Tuesday morning and didn't see his car in the spot he had left it the night before. He says he works in Connecticut, so commuting from his Unionport home is what he depends on at the moment.

Melendez says that while the suspect was stealing his vehicle, he was sitting on his couch.

"That means he was stealing it while I was right there and he walked right outside my building," said Melendez.

Thanks to police, the vehicle was found. A neighbor, and now a friend, had a surveillance camera pointing right in that direction.

Video shows someone looking at Melendez' car and pacing back and forth. Later, the suspect drove away with the 1997 Honda CR-V down Newbold Avenue.

Melendez says whoever took his car left ashes everywhere and took the power supply battery, jumper cables, lotion and quarters. He wants to remind Bronx residents that whoever did this is still out there.

Police have not given an official description of the suspect they're looking for, but Melendez told News 12 he is extremely grateful for their work in finding his car so quickly so he can get back to work and his life.
