Hispanic heritage exhibit at Poe Park displays beauty, tradition of Hispanic culture

THE BRONX -

The celebration of Hispanic heritage is on display in the Bronx.

An exhibition inside the Poe Park Visitor Center has art of all kinds, from photography to paintings.

"This one is about culture, and especially here are so many Hispanic groups here; this gives the people who come here so many of them come from these countries to see work up that honors them and the beauty of their culture is something to be proud of," says curator Lucy Aponte.

The art is all done by Hispanic artists from the Bronx. The display is used as a tool to teach and instill pride in the community and especially in the youth.

"The art throughout the exhibition does everything from creating a sense of home to creating a political statement,” says Aponte.

The exhibit is also free of charge.

“It’s so expensive to go to a gallery space in Manhattan or a museum, and here it’s free, and they get to learn about the pride they should have for their culture,” says Aponte.
