Neighbors in a Cumberland County neighborhood say that they are on edge after someone broke into a home, shooting a 22-year-old man and killing the family dog.
Vineland police say that it happened around 3:45 a.m. Tuesday at a home on the 1000 block of Sunset Avenue. They say that the intruder shot the man in the face and shot and killed the family dog. A 23-year-old woman who was also inside the house was not hurt.
The victim was taken to Cooper Medical Center and is in critical but stable condition.
The entire incident has neighbors scared.
"It makes you go on edge a little bit,” says neighbor Tyler Schneider. “It's got my nerve shocked a little bit."
Neighbor Cesar Colon says that he is worried about his family because he works overnight.
"I’m scared because my wife and kids are in the house while I’m truck driving,” Colon says.
Police say that they do not have a description of the suspect. They are conducting interviews to find out more. Police also say that they are reviewing security camera footage from the area.
While the investigation continues, the neighbors say that they will use caution and lock their doors.
Anyone who may have information about the crime is asked to call Vineland police at 856-691-4111 ext. 4181 or leave an anonymous tip at 856-691-0345.
