The man charged with murder in the stabbing death of a 16-year-old in Oceanside pleaded not guilty Thursday morning inside a Mineola courtroom.
Police say eight people, including 18-year-old Tyler Flach, of Lido Beach, were arrested in connection to the brawl on Sept. 16 that left Khaseen Morris, 16, dead. Flach was indicted by a grand jury on murder, gang assault, and other charges.
Morris' stabbing was captured on cellphone video. Prosecutors say he was stabbed by Flach in a parking lot near Oceanside High school. Detectives say Flach and several other teens had come to the shopping center that day to confront Morris about a girl.
Flach's attorney Edward Sapone says there has been a rush to arrest and judge his client. He says, “We have a team of investigators who are out there. We have spoken to many witnesses and I can tell you this, there is another side to this story.”
In court, Sapone received a hard drive which he says contains multiple cellphone videos of the melee. He says those videos could be key to proving his client’s innocence.
Morris' family says they don't believe his claims. The victim’s sister, Keyanna Morris, says, “What is in the dark will come to light. The truth will always overstep all of the nonsense.”

The Morris family says they are prepared for a long court fight, so their brother can get justice.
The seven other teens who allegedly participated in the fight the day Morris was killed were also indicted by the grand jury on assault charges.
