A New Cassel man who allegedly recorded himself spraying soda on a marked Nassau police SUV has been arrested.
Police say it happened Tuesday night on Post Avenue in Westbury. Nassau Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder says officers weren't in the SUV at the time, but arrested Wesley Rodas shortly after he posted the video and then deleted it on social media.
In Nassau County, it's now illegal to spray a police officer with water or any type of liquid. Last month, the county executive signed legislation to better protect police officers from being harassed.
“Enough's enough,” says Ryder. “Our cops are out there, very proud men and women that serve the people of Nassau County. We demand from our cops to give respect. We also want that same respect back."
Rodas was charged with attempted criminal mischief, criminal tampering and littering. The police commissioner says Rodas did confess to throwing soda on the police cruiser and admitted to drawing graffiti along the Long Island Rail Road.
