A mixed martial arts specialist in Rockaway is teaching police officers how to subdue a suspect with as little force as possible using Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
Joe Farina of Pure Mixed Martial Arts says he's teaching officers how to control a suspect using technique and leverage without striking.
He says that it's incredibly important to teach police officers jiu-jitsu, and that it requires little use of force.
Police using excessive force has been a concern for many following the deaths of Eric Gardner and Freddie Gray.
