A Westport K-9 will retire after police say the dog was diagnosed with a brain tumor. 

Westport police announced the early retirement of K-9 Koda due to a recently diagnosed brain tumor.

Koda is a 9-year-old Belgian Malinois who joined the Westport Police Department in February of 2012.

He worked with Officer James Loomer in the patrol division and responded to over 600 calls for service in Westport and other nearby towns.

Police say they plan to hold a retirement party for K-9 Koda Friday.

They will also kick off a fundraising drive for a new police service dog.

Koda will continue to live with his handler, officer Loomer.
